People often complain that using libraries is more confusing than using Google. As librarians, we constantly work to streamline our tools and services to make using the library easy and intuitive. One of our latest improvements has been streamlining the process of placing requests on items from other GPC libraries and USG institutions, and we’ve made it easier to keep track of your library items via your library account, too. As you search the GIL-Find@GPC catalog, you’ll notice a handy new button located right next to the book’s call number.
The Place Request button does exactly what you expect: it allows you to request books from other GPC campuses to be sent to the campus of your choice. Click on Place Request and login to your My Account with your 900 number, your last name, and your PIN. (If you don’t know your PIN number, watch this short video that tells you how to get it).
Once you log into your My Account, the Place Request form appears right on the book record screen. Simply select your desired pickup location via the drop down menu and click Submit Request. The Clarkston Circulation Desk is the default location, so make sure to change the location if you’d like to pick your item up at a different campus.
Your My Account also provides convenient access to renew the items that you have checked out, see if your requests have arrived, cancel your requests if you changed your mind, or get the GALILEO password.
Do you like the new Place Request and My Account features in the GILFind@GPC catalog? If you go to the new GILFind Universal Catalog, you’ll notice that the Request feature for requesting books from other USG institutions has been streamlined, too! Just login to your library account and you are ready to place requests, renew, and check delivery and due dates on GPC and other USG institutions’ items.
Both GIL-Find@GPC and GIL-Find Universal offer a mobile interface, so you can now work on your research while in line in the grocery store. And don’t forget to use the handy
button to send the information about the books that you find to yourself, your teachers, or other students working on the projects with you.
Please tell us if you enjoy the new features of our library catalog and what future improvements you would like to see.
